Hi Eric, thanks for getting back to me about my sandblaster clogging question. My problem is with the nozzle as soon as I open the mixing valve the flow stops except when I use the nozzle with the bigger hole. Now I have to sandblast powder coating from car rims so I need the strongest air flow from the smallest nozzle could it be that my compressor is not powerful enough to handle this or that the media is not fine enough to flow thru the nozzles. As u can see i am new to sand blasting so any expertize from u would certainly help. I am letting the psi build to 125.
My Response:
If you are using a small nozzle, it sounds like you either have too high of a “abrasive to air ratio” or there is debris in the abrasive.
Always filter out your abrasive to remove any debris before pouring it into the sandblaster. Lately I have been using a window screen.
Also, try to adjust the mixing valve to a lower abrasive to air ratio. Both of these problems have happened to me before.
Let me know if that helps.
I used an old window screen, pretty amazing the chunks that got filtered out, up to 3mm dia, looked like quartz crystals?
Yea, I remembered when I first got into sandblasting. Abrasive stopped so I took the nozzle apart and there was a large piece of debris jammed inside.
I always screen it out now.
