A great question came in from a customer, Ann, about connecting our sandblaster nozzle with mini hose to a cabinet. This tutorial is also relevant to our other hose version.
She stated:
Just purchased a steel blasting gun for a cabinet. I need to take the hose off of 1 end so I can feed it through the cabinet. It is on there really tight. Suggestions?
Whether you need to connect this to a cabinet or need to replace the hose, it is usually easiest to just cut off the hose near the nozzle as shown below. You will only be losing less than an inch of hose. However, if anyone orders our kits in the future, and they would like me to ship it without connecting the hose to nozzle, please let me know.
Step 1: Remove Sandblast Hose Clip Near Nozzle
In older models, these were shipped out with the spring clamps so here I removed it with pliers. Newer models use a worm-drive clamp which requires removal with a screwdriver.
Step 2: Use a Razor Blade to Cut Off Edge
The hoses we use are very strong and resilient so it is near impossible to pull off, as stated. To remove these, you must cut the end off with a razor blade or sharp knife. Place the nozzle on a table and saw cut through the hose.
Step 3: Slice Cut through Middle of Hose on Barbed Fitting
Then simply cut a slice through the center of the hose that is on top the barbed fitting. You may have to progressively slice through it a few times. Be sure to keep all fingers at a safe distance away from the area while pushing down.
Step 4: Easily Pull Off!
That’s it! Then just easily pull it off. Now you can slide the hose through the cabinet wall and reconnect the nozzle on the barbed fitting inside.
Step 5: Stretch Hose End to Slide on Barbed Fitting
Since we use a very resilient hose, it may be difficult to slide the hose end on the barbed fitting (even more so in the colder months). To make it easy to slide on, all you need to do it stretch or heat up the hose end.
If you have needle nose pliers, I stick them into the hose and use two hands to pull the handles apart which stretches the inside hose, as shown below. Immediately push the hose on the barbed fitting.
If you don’t have pliers, you can also heat up the hose end to soften it with a flame or a heat gun. You can place the hose end over a lighter or candle for a few minutes, then immediately slide the hose over the barbed fitting.
Some folks may want to do both of these techniques to slide the hose on easier.
Where to Slide the Hose Through Cabinet
Most cabinets are equipped with the siphon blaster setup which has an air fitting on the side. If you are replacing the siphon with an external pressure pot blaster, you can remove the air fitting and easily slide our hose through this hole like I did in the first photo of this page.
If you would like to ensure the hole is completely sealed, you can insert a rubber grommet such as these on Amazon. The grommet’s inner diameter has to be 3/8″ and the outer diameter needs to cover roughly a 1/2″ hole.
If you have any further questions, please ask below. Thank you
Bravo.
Thank you so much. That worked great.
Now how do i get the hose all the way onto the barb. I got it halfway.
Ann, I appreciate the other great question. I added a new step 5 to answer your question in the above post.
Please let me know if you have further.
