Can u tell me best stuff to get powder coating off? I have used 20+ bags of glass, getting no where. thanks
My Answer: I haven’t sandblasted powder coatings yet but I know its tough stuff. You might want to try aluminum oxide if you want to give sandblasting another shot. They say softer abrasives work too such as walnut shell and plastic media so I am not sure what the problem is (they are also recommended so there is no sandblasting damage). But I think most people use a paint stripper formulated for powder coatings.
I recommend that you try rubbing on a light coating of paint stripper to soften the powder coating up and then sandblast it. That will do the trick. It will be easier than scraping the paint stripper and powder coating off.
Also, I hear a lot of people using and suggesting to use Permatex Gasket Remover® but others say its very hazardous stuff and can cause cancer.
One Last Suggestion
I would recommend that you use a pressure pot system instead of a syphon sandblaster too since it has more pressure and power. It is by far the best piece of sandblasting equipment for this type of tough cleaning.
